Tomorrow is Christmas Eve, and our last day of work before Christmas. We finish at 1 and then will be in and out of the office until 4th Jan. The majority of time I'll be off though - yeh!
I didn't get the promotion, despite feeling like i was led to believe that I would do by my manager. I feel OK about it as I know I'll get there in time but at the same time can't help but feel like I've let both myself and Mada down.
I guess we'll just have to work extra hard at saving to get our house next year. We WILL have our house by next year. I'll make sure of it!
I'll be wrapping all my Christmas presents tonight and I'm excited to do so, especially my presents for Mada which I have put so much thought into - I hope he likes them.
Last night a few of us went for dinner at The Bee. Although pricey, the place has undergone a complete revamp and the food was AMAZING.
I love Christmas time, so much time to spend with friends and family. The best parts being midnight mass tomorrow night, waking up next to Mada and sharing Christmas day with my whole family - yay!
To 2010! Woho!

Update
Isn't it funny that when I was unhappy I sometimes blogged up to 3 times a day, no I have left it days, weeks since I last wrote an entry! I guess that says something in itself :o)
Tomorrow Grandma turns 90 and the whole family are heading down to Dorset to stay in a huge cottage to celebrate over a long weekend. I can't wait. I spent many hours working on a "This Is Your Life" DVD which I finally finished last night at about midnight (by the time i got to bed) and was up at 5am to head to work for the Breakfast Show this morning.
Never thought I'd look forward at getting up for work at 5am and voluntarily too.
Things just get better and better.
Just 5 more months to go and then we'll be at the bank trying to see what sort of mortgage we can get. We've set ourselves the date of March 2010. Time to work hard, save hard and party only a little bit ;o)
Last week I ran a cross-country 10K race for a charity called CHASE. We raised about £600+ for terminally ill children who stay at this hospice. I think I mentioned it before. The weather was diabolical and we literally were running in mud up to our ankles. I've got really bad shin splints but they're easing today. All for a good cause for children far worse off than me, so I won't complain. It was a real challenge over all.

Would you lie to your Mother?
What sort of relationship do you have with your Mother?
I think there are two categories. There's the "Mother & Daughter" relationship and there is the "Friends" relationship. Some people have said that when they reached their late teens/ early 20's they moved out of home and suddenly found that their once "Mother" was now their "best friend".
I do at times wish I had this relationship with my own Mother but alas, I do not. I have the good old fashioned Mother & Daughter relationship and today this was truly evident.
Whilst "fooling around" with The Boy, we, *ahem* inadvertently ripped my duvet cover. Don't ask me how, one minute we were *ahem* and the next, we had ripped the seam of the cover and made a gaping, unrepairable hole of about 2 foot. Shit.
In a complete kerfuffle, after he had left and knowing my Mother was due home any minute, I tried to think of a way of explaining how this unfortunate event had taken place. There was no way I could simply hide it - I've just had my whole room redecorated (in celebration of the grand return home, bless) and well, no, I couldn't get away with it. This cover cost £50 of my Mother's hard earned money - yikes. I felt like a 13 year old girl, all over again. Oh the shame of it.
As she came through the door I busied myself with making some lunch and her a cup of tea (ease her into it). Whilst my back was turned I harped on about my day and then just said "You'll never guess what i did in my sleep last night..." She frowned... "I must have been sleeping really restlessly and somehow (tried best to pull a confused face which I have perfected over the years) ripped my bed sheet..."
Dubiously she headed upstairs to look at the evidence and I made a joke about being worried she was going to "tell me off" (hoho) and she said, "well it wasn't your fault, I thought you were going to tell me you'd been fooling around with The Boy in it" *CRINGE*. I yelled some profanities in embarrassment. Surely that was enough to give me away?
Immediately, in her, straight-to-the-point-manner, she was on the phone to Next making a complaint over the quality of the workmanship and within an hour, we'd been down to our local branch and exchanged for a brand new cover. Hilarious.
A part of me wished that I could have just said "Cor, i was having a right steamy sess over lunch today and ripped my duvet cover"... that would have been the "Best Friend" relationship, but for the foreseeable future, I think we'll keep it with "what a restless sleep".

You've been Tangoed?
My sister is training to be a beautician and got her qualification up in London today to perform "Fake Bake". Some how, I have been "volunteered" as her first "practice" client on Saturday.
Whilst I don't really mind (it's my Sister, you do these things for them) I am kinda still nicely tanned from Vietnam and well, if things go wrong, I could be looking rather, um, orange.
Oh well, it only lasts a week and it's safer than getting skin cancer... I guess.

It's not WHAT you know, it's WHO you know

Feeling much more positive and upbeat today after a fantastic day with my Sister yesterday. We ran 5 miles around Virginia Waters (I forgot just HOW beautiful it is there) followed by a pub lunch in the sun.
The weather here is gorgeous, which helps make the move back that much easier. We burnt our noses and shoulders would you believe.
In the afternoon we went shopping which was torturous (I resisted to buying anything - even a dress in Oasis which was reduced to £25!! Gargh!).
In the evening we went to her apartment and Billy ate with us. It was so cool for the 3 of us to be back together. My two favourite people to be with :)
We talked about my plans and Billy kindly offered to call his Brother who is Head of the 2nd top school in Surrey. I am now scheduled to go and meet him (date TBC) to get some help on teaching courses and who knows, maybe he'll be able to offer me a Teaching Assistant post at his school, starting in September or recommend me for another school. I can only hope and pray.
If i can get a post as a TA (Teacher Assistant) this means I can apply for my Mortgage as if you work for the Government there are special "deals" you can get. Then, I could go to college NEXT year once I have my mortgage and apartment. I think realistically I'll need to get a second job - but I don't mind, I'm use to hard work.
Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, but i sincerely hope not. Just think, that would give me about 8 weeks of summer to play with/ get a part time job/ go to Africa for a few weeks and then I could press on with LIFE in September.
Exciting...
Today the weather is spanking once again. So luckily my Sister has 2 days off work back to back, so we are taking a roadtrip down to Bournemouth Beach together - :) Best go pack up my bag, including my SLR so I can get some good shots and show my friends back in KL and HK that the UK isn't so bad either ;)

Owner of a lonely heart
I can't stop thinking about how much I miss my family and friends at home. I think spending the weekend with couples is what triggered it off. But then, isn't that every weekend?
I guess I just want somebody here to love too and love me in return (sad, pouting face). Going to sleep every night on your own and waking up on your own everyday sucks. I'm not just talking about the bedside chats but saying morning when making a cup of tea or someone asking how your day was as you step through the door.
I've always thought that i loved living alone and i do, i like my own space and my own privacy but i do miss just having someone around - whether it be my Mum or my sister or a partner or friend.
Underneath it all, I'm very lonely. Whilst couples sometimes make me feel lonely, they (my friends) do bring me love and happiness and all in all, a distraction to what I myself am essentially missing.
I'm thankful to have them and thankful that they have one another. Seeing them happy makes me feel happy inside, despite the twang they leave in my heart.
Is that twang jealousy? Maybe a little, yeh.

I pray with a thankful heart
I hit an all time low yesterday. The family and friends that never fail me, were there for me. As always. But, I was inconsolable.
I cleansed my soul under a burning hot shower, red eyed, blotchy faced, tears still streaming, head pounding. I was so worked up I was sick. I felt like shit. I threw on an old skanky (but comforting) t shirt and crawled into my bed. Duvet wrapped around my whole body. I turned my head and stared at my bible, glowing hot pink under my bedside lamp. Can you help me? I stared at it for ages, flicked through pages, back and forth, didn't know how to use it at all.
I wearily reached out to my phone, text Bombies, help me, help me find the right words, the right passage to give me the inner strength that has turned sour and left me.
Romans 8: 18 - 39
Philippians 3: 12-21, 4: 1-9
I read through once, frowning as usual, eyes painful from crying, mind weary. Then I shut it and turned out the light. I lay there. Then switched on the light again, sat up and read again.
These words spoke to my heart, they were the words of encouragement I needed to pull me through. Perhaps they were the most uncomplicated, most straightforward but still, they are what touched me.
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me — put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
As I type this, I blush. It has just dawned on me, that this is not the first time I have heard this verse. Someone once said it to me, a long time ago. I forgot. Locked it away. Curious that these words jumped out at me, was it in my subconscious? I didn't recognise them at all last night.
It was the first time I have turned to the bible in a time of desperation and the first verse that has ever given me strength.
I will always remember this verse.
I'm beginning to realise what it's all about.

I'll see you on the other side!
When you tell someone you want to be alone for a while they should respect it. Especially when you are in your own home and have just spent the WHOLE day with them and will be spending the WHOLE of tomorrow with them.
After poking their head around the door for the third time in half an hour, you take a deep breath and patiently say, "I did ask if you could leave me to myself for a little while".
They get stroppy and walk out. Ten minutes later they ask, "Am I allowed to talk to you yet?" You sigh, give up and realise you won't be able to blog until you're back in your own home, in 2009.

Faking It
Today we had all the family over (+ Mr Big) for a gathering. It was great to see my cousins, my Gran and my extended family all together. My Step Dad (Papa Dob) even put on a video of us all from Christmas 1994 when us cousins were doing a "Show" involving singing, dancing, juggling - it was really funny. I was so embarrassed though, I physically turned away from the screen when the camera zoomed in on me, and everyone "awh"ed. haha.
It was hard work though, especially with my Gran who turns 90 next year. She is totally amazing and I admire and love her SO much, we always have long chats and I could spend hours with her, listening to her funny stories from back in the day. But today she must have asked me (and I'm not exaggerating on this occasion) over a dozen times "When are you coming home?" at first I joked and laughed it off and said "I'm home now" (smile). But after a while, she turned to me with tears in her eyes and said once again "Please come home, I worry about you so much" and started telling me about how sometimes she calls out for me in the night, thinking I'm sleeping in the next room or gets up and starts to make me breakfast - it broke my heart. Eventually I told her "One day, I promise".
What made it harder is that she kept saying, I don't worry about your Sister because she has Billy* but you're out there on your own. I tried telling her that just because someone is on their own doesn't make them any more unsafe or unhappier than a married person (smile), but I guess she comes from a generation where marriage = happiness. I know that all she wants is to see her Grand Children settled down and "happy" (married) but I can't live my life for other people's dreams, I have to live it for my own.
Even worse, she would turn to Mr Big (she's known him as long as I have) and say, "Tell her to come home would you, she'll listen to you" and he just turned to me and said "Come home". It was SO hard, and it wasn't like it was just them, I felt like that was all that was on people's mind. Even my Mum said to my family when she thought I was out of ear shot "Just because I don't say it, doesn't mean I don't want her home too". In fact, on second thought, she knew I was just within earshot.
I feel like I'm punishing those closest to me, but at the same time, the more they wish for me to come back from my "jolly" the more it makes me want to stay away. I can't explain why, it just aggravates me. I feel like no one understands my life, what I do, why I enjoy it so. Even Mr Big turned to me and said "Well, what's so special about Malaysia then?". Even a man who has been in my life for over 8 years doesn't seem to understand me. I replied "I don't know". Perhaps I don't even know, myself.
How can I tell them that I want to live in Malaysia, indefinitely. Or else, anywhere BUT here?

Ten Reasons... Why I'm Smiling
1) It was the first Chilly morning I've experienced in KL and I drove to work with the windows down, sunglasses on, air con off and music up
2) The sky is now Blue and the Sun is shining
3) My friend rang me from Kuching just to inform me she was going for Kolok Mee
3a) Which lead to the following conversation with my colleagues:
[10:09:44 AM] Bubs says: Ooooh my friend just rang me from Kuching.. she is going for Kolok Mee... I wanna go too....!
[10:10:13 AM] JT says: I WANT I WANT!!!!
[10:10:18 AM] MT says: me too! me too!
[10:12:01 AM] Bubs says: I've never tried.... but I feel it is a dish I'd love....
[10:12:24 AM] Bubs says: And REAL sarawak laksa...... sigh.....
[10:13:35 AM] MT says: kolok mee and sarawak laksa are in the blood of every true born sarawakian.

7) One of my male KL friends text me this morning and referred to me as "Princess"
8) Mr J told me that the canvas has arrived and so he can start working on my painting soon
9) Went for Supper with Bombies and Mr J last night and discussed starting my own business... the dream of doing so is enough to put it on this list
10) I feel loved.

I love my Ma
I don't feel like anyone is appreciating how ill I feel :(
Waaaaaa I actually called my Ma last night just to ask her to give me sympathy! I lay on my bed literally "waaaaing" to her complaining that my neck hurt so much I can't even turn it (which is true, it hurts like hell!)
She started harping on at me about taking painkillers, going to the doctors, having a proper diet, taking more rest, working less, stop partying and stop exercising - my response was, can you just be nice and make cooing noises at me and tell me I'm pretty please, which she subsequently did.
I ordered some Christmas flowers for her earlier in the week and they will arrive at her work tomorrow morning, sending her Christmas joy and reminding her that I will be back 'home', yet again in 1 weeks time. I hope they make her smile.

As much as my Mum isn't someone I turn to if I needed 'life' advice, she's always good for an over the phone cuddle and some love.

Waaaaaa I actually called my Ma last night just to ask her to give me sympathy! I lay on my bed literally "waaaaing" to her complaining that my neck hurt so much I can't even turn it (which is true, it hurts like hell!)
